Can Opener is a file opening management tool for macOS.

That lets you centrally view and adjust the association between file types and applications, eliminating the need to navigate to each file’s information window individually. The software supports searching for file types by category, specifying default applications individually, and batch switching between opening programs for images, office documents, source code, and media files, making it convenient for trying out new software or changing work tools. With customizable configuration schemes, you can save different settings for work, writing, and personal projects, and switch between them with a single click from the menu bar. Can Opener For files requiring flexible handling, you can enable prompts on each opening, allowing you to select the application via the keyboard; path rules can automatically assign programs based on the file’s location. It also supports separately setting the opening programs for web links and HTML files, managing URL protocol handlers, viewing all types associated with a single application, and undoing recent changes. Router Mode reduces repeated confirmations after the initial authorization of each file type, and related settings are protected by key signing stored in the system keychain. The software is built with native SwiftUI, supports Simplified Chinese, iCloud or custom location synchronization, and JSON configuration import and export. Can Opener is compatible with macOS 15 and above, while Router Mode requires macOS 26 and above.
