ClipScrub

ClipScrub is a native privacy masking tool for macOS.

That can identify and remove names, dates, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, QR codes, barcodes, faces, and other personal identifiers from files such as PDF, Word, RTF, ODT, PNG, JPG, JSON, CSV, XML, MP4, and MOV completely offline. All detection and processing are performed on the Mac; the original files remain unchanged, only exported copies are masked. PDFs are flattened while preserving text search, copying, and screen reading capabilities as much as possible, while Word files retain their original formatting. The application offers features such as original text vs. results comparison, item-by-item review, manual selection, screenshot and screen recording masking, batch folder processing, menu bar shortcuts, and custom rules. The command-line tool supports standard input/output, script pipelines, ClipScrub a security policy of not outputting the original text on failure, pseudo-anonymization, and DICOM/EDF header removal. Basic rules combine on-device OCR, pattern matching, face and barcode recognition; on compatible Apple chip Macs, it can also use Apple on-device models to identify sensitive information within context. ClipScrub is suitable for privacy cleanup in healthcare, customer service, development, data analysis, and before submitting content to cloud-based AI tools. However, the detection is not absolutely complete, and manual review is still required before sharing.
