LocalMelody

LocalMelody is a native, private AI music generation tool for Apple Silicon Macs.

That transforms short prompts, mood descriptions, or creative inspirations into complete songs with melody, lyrics, and vocals. The software runs the core generation process locally; prompts, lyrics, and generated audio are not uploaded to the developer’s backend, making it ideal for music enthusiasts who value creative privacy, control over their materials, and an offline workflow. Users can shape sounds based on parameters such as genre, mood, vocals, tempo, and tonality, and can also reference sound features, optimize lyrics, and generate tracks up to four minutes long. LocalMelody offers both ACE-Step vocal workflows and MusicGen instrumental workflows. Once generated, tracks can be played and organized in a local library, and audio and lyrics can be exported for further processing. The software requires an Apple chip and macOS 14 or later, with a minimum of 16GB of RAM; 32GB or more RAM is recommended for higher-quality models. Initial configuration requires an internet connection to install Homebrew, Ollam, the runtime environment, and models. After setup, music generation can be done directly on your Mac, with connections only made for license activation, software updates, and model downloads.
