Description

Pipiri is a picture-in-picture tool for macOS that turns any app window into an always-on floating panel that easily remains visible across all Spaces.

Users only need to press the fn+P shortcut key to switch the current focus window to PiP mode, and double-click the PiP window to quickly switch back to the original window focus. The software supports the area capture function, press fn+shift+p to open the selection overlay, drag and drop to select a specific area to capture, or hold fn and double-click in the window to instantly capture the magnified area around the cursor. Flexible zoom operation allows users to hold Cmd to drag and drop on the PiP window to enlarge the area, and can also use the =/- key to adjust the zoom level, and Cmd+double click to reset to the full view with one click. Pipiri features adaptive resizing to keep the aspect ratio locked, streams restart at the new resolution to ensure clarity and persist the preferred width setting. When zooming in, users can scroll on the PiP window to pan the content, and hold down Cmd to switch to adjust the zoom level. The software provides independent frame rate settings for each application, which can be prioritized for efficiency or responsiveness according to needs, such as the terminal window can significantly reduce CPU usage by only 1fps, while video playback supports 30 or 60fps, which is automatically saved and restored by application, and can be quickly changed by pressing the F key or overlay menu while hovering.

Tap through mode fades out when the cursor moves over the PiP window when auto-hide is enabled, allowing the user to interact directly with the content behind them while pausing the stream. The Quick Display Hide feature allows you to tap the fn key while hovering to completely hide the PiP window, click again to display, automatically close after 60 seconds in the hidden state, and close immediately when pressing Backspace. Pipiri’s trigger hotkeys are fn-P by default and fully customizable, and region capture can be achieved by simply adding Shift to the hotkey. The idle detection function provides a gentle reminder on the PiP window when the captured content stops changing, and the user can press the D key or click the upper right corner to indicate that the window switches the detection switch. Multi-window mode allows for simultaneous capture of multiple different windows, each boasting an independent floating PiP panel. The Enhanced Contrast option improves the contrast and sharpness of captured content, helping small fonts or low-contrast interfaces remain legible at PiP size. Pipiri is based on Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit to capture individual windows directly without recording the entire screen, maintaining a very low CPU and memory footprint, especially at low frame rates. Command-line control supports quick launch of PiP through CLI parameters, such as specifying the application name, window title or ID, as well as the initial zoom position and magnification, making it ideal for automated workflows. Whether it’s monitoring long-running terminal Pipiri commands in another application, keeping logs visible during debugging, following AI agent progress like Claude Code or Cursor while browsing, watching videos that don’t support native PiP like Twitter/X, Reddit, Twitch content, or monitoring dashboards, CI pipelines, and community chats like Discord and Twitch, Pipiri can significantly improve multitasking efficiency. Keep important content always in sight.
