Shotbolt

Shotbolt is a screenshot and screen recording tool for macOS.

That integrates multiple capture methods, layered annotation, text recognition, and history retrieval into a single workflow. A unified keyboard shortcut allows you to launch region, window, full-screen, or timed screenshots. Use freeze screen, pixel magnifier, size hints, and arrow keys to fine-tune the precise selection area. Switch between text extraction, scrolling screenshots, video recording, or GIF capture from the action bar. After a screenshot is saved, arrows, text annotations, and overlays remain on separate layers and can be moved, hidden, adjusted, or rotated for easy modification of descriptions and protection of sensitive information. History supports searching by filename and text within the screenshot, displaying the line containing the matched text, along with automatic categorization and easy-to-read titles to help find materials. Shotbolt Quick access cards support annotation, pinning, and dragging into other applications. The Pro version also offers automatic de-identification and multiple images on the same canvas. Text recognition is performed using Apple’s native technology; screenshots are only uploaded when actively creating a sharing link, requiring no account registration. The software requires macOS 26 or later and is compatible with Apple chips and Intel Macs.
