Description
ShutdownBar is a lightweight menu bar-based timed shutdown tool for macOS 26.
It provides a more intuitive alternative to the system-defined shutdown schedule that is no longer available starting with macOS Ventura, allowing you to easily set a shutdown countdown without entering terminal commands. ShutdownBar The software supports immediate shutdown, setting the timer by minute or hour, and custom durations, making it suitable for use after get off work, at night, or on weekends when you don’t want your Mac to run continuously. It helps reduce idle power consumption and prevents you from forgetting to shut down your computer. ShutdownBar Users can open the pop-up panel from the menu bar to select the time, view the ongoing countdown, and schedule or cancel the shutdown using the global shortcut ⌥⌘S. The application displays the Dock icon by default, but can be switched to only display in the menu bar for a cleaner desktop. The software requires no administrator privileges or complex configuration, using Apple’s user-side APIs to perform operations; timing preferences are saved locally via UserDefaults, and the application runs completely offline, without collecting or transmitting data. The pop-up panel can be closed during the countdown, but the application must remain running; exiting prematurely will prevent the shutdown task from executing. The software is distributed through the Mac App Store and offers interfaces in English, German, Japanese, and Spanish.
