Sift

Sift is a file command bar tool integrated directly into macOS Finder.

Users can select files and describe their desired results in natural language to perform repetitive operations such as filtering, converting, cropping, merging, and compressing, without needing to switch to a separate file browser or open multiple processing software programs. It supports precise file selection by type, size, date, and text description, and can batch process images, videos, audio, PDFs, filenames, metadata, and archived content. Examples include creating centered rectangular copies of images of a specified size, cropping MOV files and converting them to MP4, merging multiple PDFs, or packaging selected files into a ZIP file. Built-in actions can be executed instantly offline, while complex requests can connect to Ollama or other local models compatible with the OpenAI interface. Files remain on the Mac, independent of cloud accounts, and do not collect telemetry data. Before executing tasks that may modify files, Sift displays a detailed plan, output name, and related commands, and requires manual confirmation for high-risk operations. During the task, it also provides progress viewing, cancellation, activity logging, result location, and file system-verified undo capabilities. The software is natively compatible with Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, making it ideal for users who want to efficiently perform batch organization and media processing within the current Finder folder.
