I totally agree with you. Readcube has destroyed Papers3.
I believe they switched to a subscription model. The app used to be so good but since it was bought by another company (Elsevier?) they have completely destroyed the app. I used to sporadically use Papers 3, ReadCube and Mendeley and all three were run-down, bought out or pulverised by their developers. So, eventually I just completely gave up on reference managers even though they are brilliant. I may return to them again but need to do research into a viable alternative. Perhaps, give Zotero a try, it is free.
